It's the Cabbage Patch Election! - Updated with amounts they sold for.
November 3rd 2008 05:54
What do you give a US election-watcher who has everything? A one-of-a-kind presidential candidate Cabbage Patch Doll, of course…
UPDATE:
THE ENDING PRICE ON EACH DOLL WAS:
BIDEN - $US3,550.01
MCCAIN - $US6,000.00
OBAMA - $US8,400.00
PALIN - $US19,000.00
I THINK I HAVE ALL THE PROOF I NEED THAT THE WORLD HAS GONE THOROUGHLY MAD.
I stumbled across these today and had to share. I'm not sure if I think they are cute or scary but no doubt they will become collectors' items regardless of the outcome of the election. the dollies have been made in the likenesses of Barack Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.
The Palin doll features her signature rimless glasses and updo, as well as a red power suit and high heels, while the men are dressed in suits.
I hope you have a large wallet if you want one of these little suckers as they are being auctioned on eBay and bidding is set to finish on election day with the proceeds going to US children’s charity Toysfortots.org.
According to the website reporting on this - motherandbabay.com.au - as of 11.30EST the dolls were selling for:
Obama = $800
Biden = $600
McCain= $1025
Palin = $2500
I'm not sure what the prices of each say about people's feelings for the individual candidates but it's Cabbage Patch creepy!

The thing that came to mind when reading your post was the movie The Witches of Eastwick. Perhaps the high asking price for the McCain and Palin dolls is that they would make great voodoo dolls!

I just went on to eBay and as of 3.26pm Australian time the dolls are as follows (all in US dollars)
Obama - $7,300
McCain - $2552.99
Biden - $2025.49
Palin - $10,000
I think with the prices we can see on both Obama and Palin, Janet's idea that they may be used as voodoo dolls is looking more plausible hahahaha
