An Ode to a Friend
November 19th 2008 13:22
I have been suffering from a case of writer’s block due to a few things going on in my life but I felt the need to write this.
This is my way to say thank you to someone who is the very definition of friendship. Sometimes we have people in our lives that have an amazing impact and provide something in our lives that is invaluable.
My friend and I have shared in tragedies and triumphs, the sweetness and the sadness. I have been shown unwavering support through both the good times and the bad. We are genuinely happy for each other’s successes and share the burden of each other’s sorrows. We have been with each other through the best of times and the worst of times. Nothing ever seems too much trouble to ease the feelings of pain and the care shown for me is deeply comforting.
My friend has provided a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on and hugs when I need them. We have laughed together, cried together and can be totally ourselves in each other’s company.
In my friend I have a sounding board, a one person cheer squad, a shrink, a nurse when I’m sick, a person whose intellect always provides animated and interesting discussion, someone whose talent inspires me to be creative, someone I learn from constantly, a person who makes me laugh out loud and trusts me with their secrets and keeps mine.
That cold and wintery night that we met was a turning point in my life. I have a deep and abiding love, respect and affection for someone I’m proud to call my best friend. I know the term soulmate is usually used to describe a partner but I don’t think that is the only person who can be your soulmate. To me, it’s someone who understands you sometimes better than you understand yourself and who doesn’t love you in spite of your faults but who loves you because of them and accepts you for who you truly are.
I know the best is yet to come. Our lives will change and grow and partners will come and go but you are my constant. I am blessed.
I hope you are all as lucky as me.
For you my wonderful friend.

Hi Morgan, especially true when you sometimes feel that life is not worth living...they remind you exactly why it is!

There is a soul-mate for everyone in this world - some of us are fortunate to find them - some of us are fortunate that they find us . . . and some of us are simply brought together through fate.
But we should never stop believing.

Hi Lilla, I'm glad others have the same wonderful friendships in their lives. Thank you for your words, it really was a tribute and I was thanked with a huge hug, the most precious gift imaginable in a time of hardship.
