Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody

I know its a few days late for the anniversary of the death of legendary frontman of Queen, Freddie Mercury, but I like to think he would have had a great old belly laugh at this.

Without further ado, The Muppets - Bohemaian Rhapsody...

My New Vampire Website

April 15th 2009 06:35
Do you like vampires or things that go bump in the night? Do you like having the bejeebus scared out of you? Would you also like to see reviews of movies, books and such that cover this deep and bloody underworld? Then I have just the thing for you!

Vampire

I have started a website called Vampire Daze. Although the biggest focus will be on vampires, it will also cover other horrors and nasties such as shapeshifters, werewolves, witchcraft and the list goes on. If you can think of something otherwordly, I’ll probably write about it. It will also cover the subculture that goes with the various netherworld topics.

Vampire Daze

I’ve been a big fan of vampires since I read Bram Stoker’s Dracula when I was twelve. I was totally hooked. I soon became a fan of the horror genre and I devoured (no pun intended) books, videos and anything else I could get my hands on. I blame my mum, who is in her seventies, but is a big fan of horror herself.

Although my tastes are far more varied now, I still have a soft spot for all things vampy, both the horror and the camp.

Anyway, I hope you’ll drop by for a visit and, if it takes your fancy, subscribe.

Vampire Daze also has a Twitter account and a Myspace page so come on over…

…I won’t bite

Fangs

…much!

Retro Pin-ups - Varga Girls

January 5th 2009 05:00
I don’t know about you but I think the Varga girls have to be some of the most beautiful, glamorous and sexy pin-ups of the art world making some of todays pin-ups seem tacky and sleazy in comparison.

I love retro art and thought I’d share a few of these lovely images with you that were painted by Alberto Vargas.

Alberto Vargas became famous in the 1940s as the creator of iconic World War II era pin-ups for Esquire magazine known as "Varga Girls."

The son of a famous Peruvian photographer, Vargas moved to the US in 1916 after studying art in Europe. His earlier career saw him working as an artist for the Zeigfield Follies, Hollywood studios and pin-ups for Esquire magazine. Many World War II aircraft had “nose art” adapted from the esquire Pin-ups. His most famous film artwork was a poster for the film The Sin of Nora Moran, which is thought of as one of the greatest film posters ever made and features the lead actress Zita Johann in a near naked pose.

After a legal dispute with Esquire magazine of the use of the name Varga, in which he lost the rights, Vargas struggled financially. It wasn’t until the 1960s when Playboy Magazine began to use his work under the name Vargas Girls that his career once again thrived and major exhibitions of his work were shown worldwide.

His work was usually a technique combining both watercolours and airbrush . His proficiency with the airbrush is so respected that the highest achievement in the community of airbrush artistry is the Vargas Award, awarded annually by Airbrush Action Magazine.

Stars Without Makeup - Beautiful

October 20th 2008 06:30
Most of the tabloids do photo spreads of celebrities without makeup using the most unflattering photos. Maybe this is a way of trying to make women feel better about themselves but mostly because it's bitchy and people just LOVE bitchy.

Well this bunch of photos will disappoint because these are all photographs of women who I happen to think look beautiful with or without makeup. You may agree or disagree but each and every woman looks different with makeup whether it's a star who has had the full makeup artist treatment or you or me. Even a supermodel who has perfect bone structure or skin is going to look quite different with a bare face - yes, they will look prettier than the average Jane in the street but that's why they earn the big bucks

Halle Berry has been named Esquire's new Sexiest Woman Alive. "Being 42 and having just had a baby, I think I’ll take it," she said when told, she then added, "I share this title with every woman, because every woman is a nominee for it at any moment." Aw shucks Halle, you’ve seen me in the mornings haven’t you?

There are so many people that seem to have doppelgangers out there and I've assembled a few from the entertainment world that I think bear an uncanny resemblance to each other. Some, like Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel are so alike they could pass as twins where others could pass for being related. What do you think?

The $AU282,000 Aston Martin that was to be James Bond's car in the latest film about the secret agent spectacularly crashed into Italy's Lake Garda. Amazingly, Fraser Dunn, the technician who was transporting the vehicle when he lost control, went through an iron guard rail and into the lake, suffered only minor injuries. Not so lucky for the car. According to producers, the driver lost control in heavy rain on a narrow bend. Mr Dunn was driving one of five DBSs to the set of the movie which had just begun shooting at this location.

In true celebrity spirit, Cate Blanchett and her husband Andrew Upton have chosen an unusual baby name. Ignatius is in fact a very old name of Latin origin but I was very amused to find on a baby name origin site it was rated under saints and pirate names! Now I knew about Saint Ignatius but I can’t say I’ve ever heard of Ignatius the Pirate. But while we often raise our eyebrows at the names celebrities inflict upon their children as I poked fun at in my previous post, do we know the real names of many celebrities?

Many stars have dropped part of their name when climbing their way to fame but seems to be a music thing rather than the acting profession like Madonna (Ciccone), Beyonce (Knowles), Prince (Nelson) – who also changed his name to a ridiculous symbol and then became The Artist formerly Known as Prince but is now just Prince again (?!), Bjork (Guðmundsdóttir) and Shakira (Ripoll

Why oh why is it that celebrities think it is cool to saddle their children with the most ridiculous names? Do they think being the child of a star is enough to stop the taunts? Do they send their children to school with bodyguards? Not to mention the thought that all of these kids must have had at some stage – that their parents must really hate them.

These, in my opinion, are among the silliest and are in no particular order. Now you may disagree and think they are cool and at least they aren’t boring. Give me boring any old day
