A move is better than a holiday

Moving to Melbourne has been so much fun. The people, the arts, the entertainment – all of them make Sydney seem superficial and boring. There was a time I loved Sydney but it’s lost its shine for me. It's becoming more and more a city of ugliness and crime and a place where people put way too much thought into what people do for a living and wearing the right designer labels.
Melbourne is more earthy, cultural and fun.
So, like my decision to move to Sydney, I just jumped in boots and all.
I’ve been having small adventures wandering around and discovering Victoria and the lovely things it has to offer. I’m even starting to love the chill in the air and the fact that you can have four seasons in one day! Not very practical when you’re going out as you have to take half your wardrobe in layers but it’s fun and a bit quirky.
I’ve done the touristy things like Phillip Island which gave me an opportunity to see the penguins march which was one of the cutest things I’ve seen in ages. If only I would have been able to take photos! But I went flying in a helicopter over Phillip Island and explored the Great Ocean Road and the 12 (make that 10 and ¾) Apostles.
I’ve window shopped in areas I can’t afford and enjoyed the fun and fabulousness of St Kilda and the true multiculturism of Fitzroy.
I can see why they call Sydney the blonde and Melbourne the brunette which must leave Canberra as the mousy brown of the bunch.
Here’s a few photos of adventures discovering my new state.

i saw Chicago, i stayed for a week
the gay scene is not as good in melbourne, the clubs dont open late, and you can never get a taxi at night, but they have great theatre
as a city it reminds me a bit of newcastle, a non-working-class newcastle lol
i hope you enjoy it there

So far so good, but what a ickweekend of weather. Made me think twice there for a moment

Love going there - hate having to come home again.
Don't think I could live there though - while we love the cosmopolitan feel, the sport, the restaurants and cafes et al - it's just not a full time life occupation if you know what I mean - more a hobby - something you do because you love it.
The ad campaign to visit Melbourne run on televsion over the past couple of years has been great too - run rabbit run rabbit run run run . . .

Hi MNG, the sport thing is the only thing that I don't get. They are totally fanatical, it's bizarre. Also, the way that nobody jaywalks...that one had me puzzled but it's probably so you don't get killed by trams
